This morning I helped to lead a trip to Bentsen State Park, west of McAllen, Texas. Our journey to this famed South Texas hotspot was delayed by a bus with a mechanical problem. An alarm indicated the engine was overheating. We pulled into a McDonald's parking lot in La Feria to await a replacement bus. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. We emerged from the bus to this beautiful sunrise. And the birding was good! Greater white-fronted geese, a peregrine falcon, several flocks of green parakeets, and a loggerhead shrike were among the birds. The new bus came and we headed to Bentsen.
