BWD's current cover is a painting of red knots by Louise Zemaitis.

If you'd like to know in advance what the next cover of Bird Watcher's Digest will look like, step on over to Drawing the Motmot, the fascinating blog by Debby Kaspari. I've known Debby for nearly 20 years—since her days as a jewelry designer and lead banjo picker for the All Girl Boys in the SF Bay Area of California. She plucked under the nom-de-tune of Debby Cotter then.

Debby is a mutli-talented artist and has lent her work to the cover of BWD numerous times. Her post about creating the May/June 2008 cover painting for the magazine can be found right here.

Seen it a few weeks ago -- Painted Bunting on a Calla Plant. Its going to look great! Hell I better subscribe to BWD soon. I gotta get you and Julie here to come to northeast Minnesota at the Sax Zim Bog Birding Festival that I started. ( had 150 birders at our first festival and were expecting 250 - 300 next year )

That's if you guys do not mind cold weather & snow plus a ton of boreal birds like Northern Hawk Owl, Boreal Chickadee, Black-back & Three-toed Woodpeckers, Hoary Redpolls, Pine Grosbeaks, Gray Jays and poss. a Great Gray Owl, Snowy Owl, Gyrfalcon or a Boreal Owl.

Hey, thanks Mike! Your festival sounds great--and has a few potential lifers for me, too!
