Waiting for the bus

Every sunny morning we walk the kids out to the end of our driveway to wait for the school bus. It's a bit of family time to start out the day and to send the kids off happily to school. It's also a great way to sample the birdlife present along the edge of our mixed woodlands. A few days ago, when this picture was taken, there were large flocks of American robins, cedar waxwings, and red-winged blackbirds flying and calling overhead. Both kinglets were present as were juncos. And the resident red-shouldered hawks were screaming at the crows.

It's a great way to start the day.
