Today a vesper sparrow stopped by the farm on its way north. Small and finely streaked, with that faint eyering and chestnut shoulder—it's the first one spotted here at Indigo Hill in a decade.

ReplyDeleteThat "week behind schedule" doesn't bode well for the upcoming World Series of Birding next month...
On the contrary, the delay could mean that the WSB participants have an easier time with the early migrants, as they still may be around. Of course that assumes that things improve by then.

I love this post -- I think that, in truth, you don't care how "behind schedule" you are at Indigo Hill. However long it takes, I think you'd be happy to wait for that sparrow.

I live in South West lower Michigan. Has anyone from us northern dwellers seen any hummingbirds yet? I haven't.
