From Ice Scrapers to Skimmers

Later this week I'll be heading to Titusville, Florida for The Space Coast Birding Festival, going in a few hours from the land of ice scrapers to sand flats full of black skimmers. It's 11 degrees F in SE Ohio this morning. Even the icicles are shivering.

I've found over the years that there's nothing like a beach covered in resting black skimmers to cure the winter blahs (or even your run-of-the-mill seasonal affective disorder).

If I get any good bird pix, you'll be the second to know. Until then, go easy.

  1. The winter blahs are hard to beat, but good birds really help! I want to go to the Space Coast festival one of these years. Happy travels!

It was -26 on Sat morning this past weekend here in WI and this morning it's -20.
lol, I could use the warm FL sunshine too. One of these days I'll get down to the Space coast festival.

We all will be waiting for your report.

  7. We must have passed each other, Bill. I just returned from central Florida, having birded on the St. John's and Banana Rivers, at Lake Woodruff NWR and along the roads between Orlando and Cocoa, and Orlando and DeLand. Didn't make it to the Space Coast Festival, although if I had known about it in time, I could have gone from my convention to the Festival. Got a whole bunch of Life Birds and goe to laugh at the Floridians, shivering in 60 degree weather! No skimmers, tho. Maybe next trip.
