Milkweed Pod

Milkweed pod, the former home
of monarchs now deposed to Mexico
catching warmth of Halloween sun
and letting it go free
inside its seeds adrift on chill breeze
floating to dank earth
for sleep the winterlong
awakening in April's clasp
to warm unfolding, powdery cells
of next summer's
glistening monarch wings.

Lovely photo, lovely poem. Favorite line: Of monarchs deposed to Mexico. Thank you for this journey through the seasons, with a seed.

lovely...a hopeful way to look at the cold, dark winter ahead. Halloween's warmth has a fooled us about the chill to come. So think spring!

Even with the coming of winter that will follow Halloween, this photo and poem reminds us that the seeds of spring are at hand. Lovely.
