OK Bird IDheads, here's another mystery bird for you. This photo was taken in early June in Great Falls, Montana. Not that there's anything wrong with that....
Some help: No the bird is not eyeless and headless. It's preening.
Sorry no prize this time (it's an easy one after all). Just the glory of knowing that you know what this mystery bird is and that we know that you know. You know?
Party on. More meat on the sandwich tomorrow, I promise.

VG Swallow?
Ditto on the VG Swallow. Looks just different enough from our neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. T. Swallow.

Soylent-green swallow?
"Soylent green is pee-pul!"
I was also thinking VG Swallow. I saw them on an ABA "Institute for Field Ornithology" trip to Flathead Lake Montana last August. Very cool birds!

Violet-green Swallow. I have also heard them called Violent-green Swallows, but they seem pretty gentle to me.
I have to say it looks an awful lot like the Nuthatches I have preening on the deck all the time lately. But it probably is a Swallow.

Hmm, comming from the UK I have to admit I haven't a clue :)
i always have to mentally correct myself because i have a tendency to say violent-green when i mean to say violet-green swallow. i could watch swallows for hours, they always seem to be having fun~
Beautiful reflections on the intelligence of birds:

violet-green male...I have a pair nesting in the birdhouse over our back deck. The tree swallows are down the street.

Why not female Tree Swallow? If nothing else it might explain why our host has not declared a winner.
It's tomorrow - where's the beef?
(I thought it was a Western Kingbird, that's how bad I am at these quizzes.)

Yes. Each and every one of you is correct. It is a violet-green swallow. Well played, folks!
